Valerie Mocek Trahan Obituary
Dallas, TX - Valerie Mocek Trahan, devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Dallas, Texas with family by her side. She was born on September 1, 1935, in the rural town of Seymour, Texas. After graduating from high school, Valerie attended Incarnate Word in San Antonio, a Catholic college for women. When her mother became very ill the family uprooted from Texas and moved to Lafayette, Louisiana where she attended USL and met her husband of 65 years, Victor Floyd Trahan, Jr.
She quickly adopted the Louisiana 'way of life' and with Floyd, raised four (4) children. Together they were obedient servants of God and life-long members of Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church where Valerie served as an Extraordinary Minister - distributing Holy Communion at mass and to the homebound. Despite the suffering endured after the untimely death of their oldest child, Alyson, they remained unwavering in their faith and dedicated to the church.
Valerie was an active member of the Solitic Club, Three Ten Club, Hospice of Acadiana and the Crowley Garden Club where her floral arrangements almost always placed in the top two spots. Valerie was a duplicate bridge Life Master and even after being diagnosed with dementia continued to play and win at her beloved Bridge Studio in Lafayette. Her creativity and talents knew no bounds and her positive attitude was infectious. She enjoyed designing and creating special gifts for family and friends, cooking a Louisiana/Cajun meal - the best this side of the Mississippi - and was extremely humble and reserved when it came to accepting accolades of any sort.
She is preceded in death by her husband Victor Floyd Trahan, Jr. and daughter Alyson Trahan Ward; siblings, Victor Mocek, Mary Ann Mocek Davis, Leon Mocek and Leonard Mocek. She is survived by two (2) brothers George Mocek and Richard Mocek; three (3) children, Victor Floyd Trahan III "Trey", Simone Trahan Walzel (Scott), Valerie Trahan Corticchiato (Eric); four (4) grandchildren, Ashley Trahan (Christie), Benjamin Walzel (Gabriella), Alexander Walzel, Léa Corticchiato; and two (2) great-grandchildren, Eloise Trahan and Olivier Trahan. Her parents were George Alois Mocek and Julia Orsak Mocek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Saturday November 15th at 12pm. Visitation will be at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home at 9:30am Saturday morning, with the recitation of the Rosary at 10am. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
