Beulah was a graduate of Port Barre High School and a 1941 graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette). While at SLI she was a member of the Red Jackets and the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She married her college sweetheart John Edward Stephan on August 28, 1941. After graduation from the University, she accompanied her husband to Fort Monmouth (New Jersey) where John was in officer candidate school for the United States Army. They were next transferred to Camp Pinedale (Fresno, California) for the duration of World War Il.
Following the war, Beulah and John returned to Lafayette and settled in a home near the campus of the university in 1947, where she lived until 2019. Over the course of her husband's career, Beulah assisted with her husband's many photography assignments, including annual ID card photos for the UL student body, and was a frequent fixture at his side. She enjoyed handcrafts, home improvement projects, reading the newspaper with a grease pencil in hand, and trips with her husband and daughter to hunt for antiques. She was a loving and indulgent Mimi to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will remember that she always ended a hug with a sigh of delight. She was loved by her family, friends and those that knew her. She will be greatly missed.
